Ahhh, to be young again

I don't remember when I first heard about a bad thing that was attributed to the bad guy because he was "copying" what he'd seen on TV or the movies.

In the newest installment, James Joyner notes this from the UPI via the Washington Times:
A 10-year-old boy, who allegedly threatened to behead 7-year-old classmate Nathan Williams outside their school in Dudley, England, has been expelled.
All righty then!

Maybe I just didn't see this stuff reported when I was 10 years old. All I wanted back then was a briefcase for Christmas. How much damage could I have done? Or were there 10 year olds back then installing rocket launchers in cars?

Pete: Did you get that James Bond Attache Case? I DID. It was the coolest thing ever. A code book that you could booby-trap with caps, a cool gun with a silencer and a sight that shot red plastic bullets, a knife that fit into the case, etc. It was one of my favorite Christmas presents ever. I remember when I asked my mother for it, my aunt was there and she told my mother that at church they were telling parents not to buy this item for their kids because it promotes violence. My mother told my aunt that the church could get bent. Nobody was telling her what she could or couldn't buy for her kid. Thanks Mom!

Alas, I did NOT get the ever cherished James Bond attache case. I chalk this up to the fact that unlike you, I was not an only child. And, I wasn't lucky enough to have an Aunt that would goad my mother into buying it for me.

But a few years earlier I did get the Great Garloo!

And the year before that I got this:

I don't know -- maybe I should have been a robot programmer/designer or something.

I always wanted the James Bond Aston Martin made by Corgi. It had the slice and dice hubcaps, the revolving license plate, and best of all, the villain ejector seat. Sadly, the poor substitutes I got for Xmas instead were the Corgi Man From Uncle car and Corgi Mr. Softee Ice Cream truck. Still, I haven't auctioned either one on E-Bay yet.
